Taking a Day Off

I am taking today off!

"From grief?" you may ask hopefully. Now wouldn't that be a nice trick. No it's not from grief.

"From work?" you may ask. Nope, you have to have an actual paying job in order to take a day off from work.

I am taking the day off from my exercise and diet plan. That's right. For one day only I am going to pretend I'm not trying to lose weight and get in shape. For one day only I am going to be lazy and eat whatever I want.

Just for today, and then tomorrow I'm back on the wagon.

Yesterday I was not in a good place you can read about it here if you want to. I woke up in a bad mood and spent the entire day cleaning my house, doing laundry, and crying.

It was one rip-roaring pity party for one. Be glad that none of you were invited to attend. The end result was a clean house, a clean me (yes, I actually showered), and one very grateful husband. So grateful in fact that he even washed all the dishes after dinner so as not to mess up the freshly cleaned kitchen.

This morning I woke up with a better perspective. My house no longer resembled a war zone, and the laundry was no longer spilling out of the basket and onto the floor. It's amazing how a clean house can make you feel. But there was still the nagging guilt about my weight loss (or lack thereof) and the cycle of guilt it's causing. So rather than beat myself up about again today, I decided I needed a day off.

So I ate that croissant at my morning meeting. Then at lunch I allowed myself to have the absolutely decadent and decidedly naughty Croque Monseiur. Never had one??? Here's a photo of one.
Not exactly diet food.

It's basically a grilled ham and cheese sandwich with extra cheese and bechamel sauce poured over the top. Mmmmmmm. I also didn't exercise today.

Do I feel guilty? Not a bit. Which is a change because normally if I eat something bad (good) or don't exercise I beat myself up over it. But not today. Today I have the day off!

  1. Good for you! This is great that your taking the day off from the whole dieting thing. Funny thing is, you might surprise yourself and actually loose a little. (I have had this happen) Remember not to over do it, but eating whatever you want is nice once in a while.Congrats to you.

  3. My feeling is, that when on any weight-loss regime, it's fine to treat yourself once in a while; to taste sinful things you've been missing. Nothing wrong with being good to you!

Actually, make a date with yourself, every so often, to do what you did today. A little positive reinforcement goes a very long way!

    Enjoy,

  5. if i could only use one sauce on food for the rest of my life it would be bechamel sauce.

and i know what you mean about a clean house, it certainly reduces my anxiety levels and makes me feel better.

plus, letting your emotions rip forth is good for your soul.

i'm happy you're taking the day off:)

  6. There is never a time to feel guilt over a croque monseiur, positively mouth watering. Sometimes bad days sweep over us and all you can do is take that extra day to treat yourself for making it. You deserve it luv, enjoy the rest of it.

  10. I am so happy you indulged yourself.

I understand feeling messed up, and wading through a house that needs cleaning...I have been there. And I understand the sulking that makes your partner feel bad, and you feel bad that your partner feels bad as if he is the cause.

Keep investing in both mental as well as physical health.

  14. Everyone needs a day off -so indulge! I'm having a private pity party for myself today too - at least I'm trying to keep it private - no one likes to get invited to those LOL Number one Son is going through a rough time and well, what matters is that tomorrow usually always looks better. Might just treat myself to some major junk food today and get it out of my system LOL

Glad I found your blog -stopping by from the MidWeekMingle again. If you have a chance stop by WynnieBee - I'm new - Take care : D

  15. I think having a planned OFF DAY is BRILLIANT. I have a planned rest day from working out, but I hate that day because it means I have to eat less. Forget that! I think I will plan for that day to be a total break!
    Great idea.
I hope your clean house and dieting break are helping you feel better!
