Left Behind

Mothers smiling at their babies
I cannot smile at mine
Parents cuddling their children
I cannot cuddle mine
Photos with their eyes so bright
His eyes are shut in mine
In this journey of parenthood
I have been left behind

*This is my first ever attempt at writing poetry. I got the idea from a writing prompt over at Mama's Losin' It! The prompt was to write a poem about that time you were left behind.

It's nice to stretch once in while, but I'm not so sure poetry is my strength.

  5. This is so sad and truly makes my heart ache for you. I was blessed with one child and know only the pain of having trouble conceiving. your pain is inconceivable to me. I wish I could hug you, and every other person who has had to experience this <3 You're strength is admirable, so very admirable.

  6. Poignantly beautiful! Somethings just need to be said that are within us, they need to come out and be aired.

Yesterday, in the grocery store (I'm posting about this tomorrow) - a little boy ran around, screaming, climbing on my cart and suddenly, he was walking with me. He asked me - really, he asked me (he was about 4) "Do you think I'm going to hell?"

And my heart cried - because this little boy needed a mom like you, who would reach out, hug the breath out of him, set healthy boundaries for him, and tell him, "You can go to heaven if you want to."

He asked if he could go home with me. Then his mother started screaming at him and he took off.

Yes - he definitely needed someone like you:)

  8. That last line is just beautiful and heartbreaking.

My son has been left behind in so many ways because of autism, but you have reminded me again how precious he is to me no matter what.

  21. Hey, you did an awesome job. And your sentiment pinched me to boot. I know what you are talking of and from where it comes.

    I am sorry.

But please, you are a good poetess.

  22. Your poem is beautiful and I subscribe to the "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all" rule. It hurt my heart and made me want to cry, but it's beautiful. I'm so sorry to hear of your loss.

  23. I'm new to your blog and relatively new to the world of baby loss mamas. I came here through the blog of another baby loss mama.

What i want to tell you is that your poem is both poignant and beautiful. And its so true.I liked the last two lines best. They suit me so well too. Thanks for posting.
